A quick look ahead at upcoming Back to the Future collectibles and events planned for 2016

 

"Future Day" — aka October 21, 2015 — was wholeheartedly embraced by fans and the media around the world as we all came together to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Back to the Future Trilogy in a number of planned events and purchased a number of collectibles in record numbers.  But now that the down vests have been returned to the closets, hoverboards placed back onto the top shelves, and time machines parked back into the garages, what lies ahead for the legions of dedicated fans around the globe?

Whether you're a Back to the Future fan who collects memorabilia or attends gatherings with other fans, the following 2016 preview should be able to power your Mr. Fusion for another twelve months...

Back to the Future: An Adventure Through Time

Fire up the DeLorean and prepare for 1.21 Jigowatts of fun! In Back to the Future: An Adventure Through Time, 2-4 players compete to move Doc Brown's time-traveling DeLorean between three timelines (1955, 1985, and 2015) in order to make sure that key events from the movie's plotline take place. Maneuver key characters like Marty McFly and Biff Tannen through the different timelines, ensuring they meet at just the right moment to set off iconic scenes. The player who does the best job repairing the timeline wins!

IDW Publishing will be indefinitely continuing their Back to the Future comic series beyond the initial five-issue mini-series entitled "Untold Tales and Alternate Timelines".  As an ongoing series, the new story arc beginning with Issue #6 will be subtitled “Continuum Conundrum,” and the events presented will flow directly out of the through-line established in the first five issues.

Ever since 1998, the DeLorean Convention & Show (DCS) has been the largest regularly scheduled gathering of DeLorean owners & enthusiasts (and Back to the Future fans) in the United States. This three-day event is organized on a biennial basis, usually attracting more than 100 DeLorean automobiles & their owners and upwards of 1,000 enthusiasts & spectators. The weekend is always filled with panel discussions and sessions about the DeLorean automobile hosted by industry experts & former factory employees, along with presentations and exhibits in vendor booths — with the pinnacle being the Saturday car show itself.

Since 2004, the event has also provided attendees the unique opportunity to meet and intimately mingle with select cast & crew from the Back to the Future Trilogy. Secret Cinema brought Robert Zemeckis’, Back to the Future back to life in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford from the 31st July to the 31st August 2014 with an audience of over 75,000, making this the biggest live cinema event of its kind to date.

The audience, having left their mobile phones at the door, entered Hill Valley through Otis Peabody’s ranch and became residents of a fully functioning town, exploring over 20 shops created from the film including Lou’s Café, a suburban street, the High School featuring the famous Enchantment under the Sea Dance, Dr. Brown’s mansion and a massive reconstruction of the Town Hall with its famous clock tower.

The film was screened on the wall of the Town Hall with the world coming to life around the audience in the central green – 80 actors, several vehicles, including 2 Deloreans, and a series of stunts created a magical atmosphere.

Regarded as one of the most celebrated film scores of all time, with music fully restored from original master recordings under the supervision of composer Alan Silvestri. This marks the first time the original film score has been available on vinyl and includes never-before-released tracks from the sequels.
